Alexandria’s Andria Theatre
It’s a true downtown experience to attend a play at the Andria Theatre in Alexandria. It’s not a wonder that the main street downtown is called Broadway. While the 2021-22 season is already underway, there are several shows upcoming in the Andria Theatre Season that are worth a look. This is the quick list so you can decide which are your favorites.
Elf – the Musical
ELF is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole.
Buddy is raised unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity.
Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and his stepbrother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.
Dates: December 9th through the 12th and December 16th through the 19th, 2021.

Shawshank Redemption
When Andy Dufresne is convicted of murdering his wife and her love, he’s sentenced to life in the notorious Shawshank prison. He discovers he must find ways to keep himself and his hope alive. He hones those skills by using his wits and forging friendships.
This play is based on the novella by Stephen King, The Shawshank Redemption brings the story of resilience and redemption, made famous by the acclaimed film, to the Andria Theatre stage. There is strong language and adult themes in this production.
Dates: January 20th through 23rd and January 27th through 30th, 2021.

Disney Frozen Jr
When their kingdom becomes trapped in perpetual winter, fearless Anna joins forces with mountaineer Kristoff and his reindeer sidekick to find Anna’s sister, Snow Queen Elsa, and break her icy spell.
Although their epic journey leads them to encounters with mystical trolls, a comedic snowman, harsh conditions, and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff bravely push onward in a race to save their kingdom from winter’s cold grip.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Lawrence Jameson makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money. Freddy Benson more humbly swindles women by waking their compassion with fabricated stories about his grandmother’s failing health. After meeting on a train, they attempt to work together, only to find that this small French town isn’t big enough for the two of them.
They agree to a challenge: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female target, heiress Christine Colgate, wins, and the other must leave town. A hilarious battle of cons ensues that will keep audiences laughing, humming, and guessing to the end!

The Lion in Winter
This is a special traveling show that reoccures from October through May in various theaters around West Central Minnesota. The Lion In Winter’ by James Goldman, is a modern-day classic. Comedic in tone, dramatic in action-the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family, who are locked in a free-for-all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom. ‘The queen, and wealthiest woman in the world, Eleanor of Aquitaine, has been kept in prison since raising an army against her husband, King Henry II.
Let out only for holidays, the play centers around the inner conflicts of the royal family as they fight over a kingdom during the Christmas of 1183. As Eleanor puts it, “Every family has its ups and downs,” and this royal family is no exception.
