Dolsie’s, You Want Dolsie’s

Lets say you strike up a conversation with a total stranger at the park and ask “hey where’s a good place to have lunch?” The reply? — “Dolsie’s. You want Dolsie’s Lunch Box Grille.”

Or… your friends are coming to town and they want to have lunch at someplace “local.” — Dolsie’s. You want Dolsie’s.

It’s difficult to come up with enough good things to say about Dolsie’s Lunch Box Grille. It’s the kind of place where the owner comes out to your table to strike up a conversation because “we haven’t seen you before” and then proceeds to tell you how the amazing meal you just ate could have been better. Seriously, in this day and age, who does that?

His name is Paul. We got the feeling he just really likes to make great food for people. He has his wife Pam have owned the place for 9 years. It’s a real family diner.

The Food

We decided to stick with a couple of Dolsie’s signature items: A Strami Burger and some Olie’s.

The Strami Burger is high quality ground chuck burger, topped with pastrami, coleslaw or sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese and then drizzled with thousand island dressing. The flavor mix was incredible and difficult to describe. It all simply fit. The taste was both subtle and lingering. A mix of beef and cheese and sauce and spice that’s memorable. It’s one of those burgers you simply have to try for yourself, so that you can have a difficult time describing it too.

Olie’s are a Dolsie’s Signature Item as well. They are simple potatoes, cut into thick chips onsite. They’re fried, salted and served with cheese sauce.

We shared a plate as one order was pretty substantial. That said, they taste so good that you may want to order one to hoard all to yourself. The cheese sauce was good, but Olie’s are also awesome with ketchup. Next time we’re asking for Ranch as we’re betting that it would be a solid bet.

So just to recap, the answer to your question is: Dolsie’s, you want Dolsie’s. When you stop in, say hi to Paul and Pam. Don’t worry, they’ll introduce themselves.

Some Details

Dolsie’s Lunch Box Grille is in Downtown St Cloud, and you do have to pay attention to find the place. It’s in the middle of the block. Two other things you need to know: 1) The restaurant is only open from 10am to 2:30pm Monday through Saturday. That’s it. 4.5 short hours a day – Six days a week. So plan your trip. 2) You’ll need to pay for parking. A few quarters is all, but sometimes finding a parking spot can be difficult. Go around the block a second time. It’s totally worth it.
