Jingles Bells Is On The Way

If you live anywhere near Alexandria, you’re more than aware of the Jingle Bells Telethon and its 74 years of helping folks out at Christmas. You’ve probably watched it, been in the audience or even performed on the show. But for others in the 320 this may be something new, so lets explain.

Jingle Bells is a Telethon that started in 1949. The original show started on KXRA Radio, but then moved to local TV and became a telethon. Over the years over $2.6 million has been donated by listeners and viewers. The money raised is used to feed and buy presents for those in need during the upcoming Christmas Holiday. It’s an incredible production that is organized each year by the Jingle Bells Foundation with the help of hundreds of volunteers.

A variety of acts try out and are then then slotted to perform during the 5 hour show. It’s like a televised talent show on steroids. For many this is their first real experience performing in front of an audience. The evening is genuine and fun and one of those can miss moments of the Christmas Season.

Update: The Telethon raised $99,111 during the five hour show and more is expected to arrive as donations are accepted at the website through the end of the year.
